We are very excited to be offering an amazing opportunity to join our small friendly team here at the practice! We are looking to recruit a Band 5 part time, fixed term training post. Salary £23,113 - £29,905 pro-rata) Riverbank is a busy, friendly Practice with a varied clinical workload based in the stunning North Highlands. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a recently qualified Nurse to join our team. We have secured funding from NHS Education for Scotland to provide a 2 year funded training place for a newly qualified Nurse to prepare them for a General Practice Nurse (GPN) role. You will need to be newly qualified (or up to a maximum of 2 years post qualification). Each trainee will have a place on the NES GPN Programme which provides practice related knowledge and clinical skills training to develop an autonomous Nurse in the context of General Practice Nursing. Each trainee will complete Flying Start NHS in their first year. The post is for 20 hours per week and this will be split between clinical work 16 hours and study time 4 hours. You will be supported and mentored by senior Nurses within the Practice. We are open Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1800 hrs and you will need to work flexibly to ensure, with others, that cover is provided across the working week. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated individual with good communication and IT skills. You will be part of our established Nursing Team providing a wide range of services to our patient list. You will need to have a desire to learn and complement our current team of GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistant and Admin staff, caring for approximately 5500 patients in Thurso and immediate surrounding area. Proposal to redesign health and social care in Caithness!

New Doctor

We are delighted to announce that our newly recruited salary doctor, Dr David Carson is now taking appointments here at Riverbank. He is a huge attribute to our team, having been a practicing doctor for over 30 years whilst working all over the UK. At one point even setting up his own consultancy. Dr David Carson is not only hugely experienced but also a very friendly face who we are excited for you all to meet.


Modern Apprentice

We now have Beth Warner, a Modern Apprentice in business and administration working with us at Riverbank whilst completing her college qualification. As this is the first apprentice of her type to be working with us we are excited to see how she progresses.

New Recruits

NHS Highland has successfully recruited six clinicians - three GPs, two advanced nurse practitioners and a ‘first contact’ physiotherapy practitioner - to full and part-time posts in Caithness in the past two months.

Dr David Carson and Dr Mike Ruse are to join recent recruit, advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) Colin Armer, here at the Riverbank Medical Practice in Thurso. While Dr Herjit Sutherland is to begin at the Riverview Medical Practice in Wick along with new ANP appointment Vicki Kelly.

Advanced physiotherapist Mike Flavell, meanwhile, is to begin weekly clinics shortly in the NHS Highland-run Riverbank and Riverview practices and Lybster medical centre.

General Data Protection Regulation

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018, superseding the current Data Protection Act (1998).

Under the terms of the new GDPR Riverbank Medical Practice has a legal duty to explain to patients by means of a privacy notice what personal dad is held about them and how it is collected.

New patient self service check-in

We have just installed a new self service check in for our patients. So far so good with feedback from both patients and staff being mostly positive. Of course our Reception staff will still be there to provide a warm welcome and friendly face.Donna

Repeat Prescription Ordering

From 19 February 2018 we are  working to a 72 hour prescription turnaround period. So please allow 72 hours from when you request your prescription until collecting it.

Just a reminder we do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone. You can order on line or popping you paper request into the Practice Prescription internal post box or into your local Pharmacy.
